Why
are infrared surveys important to your facility and your clients?
Each
year insurance companies pay out millions of dollars in claims due
to the catastrophic equipment failure; this is roughly the same in
both electrical and mechanical environments. In many cases such
claims could have been avoided if a predictive maintenance
management program was incorporated. One of the most effective
predictive maintenance techniques is Infrared Analysis (Thermography).
Infrared analyses
are very quick and accurate when compared to other elaborate time
consuming analysis techniques. Infrared analysis shows you what is
actually there and is not based on far fetched assumptions. With
this type of program defective equipment can be isolated and
repaired or replaced before catastrophic failure occurs. Carrying
out regular equipment surveys is a very effective predictive
maintenance technique that is helpful to maintenance managers in
decision making. If maintenance personnel are well informed they
will be able to address faulty equipment (that may at times be
critical equipment) prior to their catastrophic failure that may
otherwise result in insurance claims. In effect a better predictive
maintenance program will result in a reduction the number of
insurance claim.

According to Hartford Steam Boiler and Inspection
Insurance Company, “72% of electrical and mechanical failures
could have been avoided with predictive and proactive care.
-
A National Power Laboratory study on power quality
states that; “The average building can expect 106 electrical
disturbances a month.”
-
“Power-related problems cost U.S. companies
approximately $30 billion a year in lost time and revenue.”
According to the Electric Power Research Institute.
-
According to the National Fire Protection
Association; “Nearly two-thirds of all electrical distribution
fire losses could have been avoided.”
-
Not to scare you but, “your facility will more
likely burn down because of an electrical hazard than from any
other cause.” According to Facilities Manager’s alert.
-
In June 2001, Maintenance Technology magazine reported a
$4 return on investment for every $1 spent on infrared
inspection.
